Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have an asus desktop ( amd phenom X6 processor) which was preinstalled with windows 7.

I wanted to install ubuntu on it (dual boot) but am unable to do so because of the boot order. So I thought of changing boot order thru bios.

But it turns out, if I press any key while the computer is starting, it just doesnt boots.

I can see that the keyboard and mouse are booted up. (the lights are on)

but the monitor is in standby mode..

I tried tab, f2,f10, delete key.

But nothing is working..

Is there a software or other alternate on how can I change boot order ?

Thanks

Is it not booting up at all or you can't boot with ubuntu disk/usb.

Following applies If it isn't booting up at all..

what you did in BIOS? BIOS isn't a place to play around.

BIOS isn't in your hard drive. It is on the motherboard's read only memory which can't be wiped. keep repeatedly pressing the key you used to enter BIOS earlier just after boot up. It should open up, reverse the changes (or do a reset).

Option 2: If the above doesn't work. Open the CPU panel, take out the CMOS battery. There should be a jumper to clear and reset BIOS. Consult your manual.

If the above fails, get your mobo checked.

Once the PC boots up, then put another question saying what are the errors/difficulties you are facing when you try to install ubuntu. What makes you think boot order doesn't allow to install ubuntu.

If you are seeing black screen after you booted the PC with ubuntu disk/usb

Here you go
