When using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, the sound on the speakers of my computer, seem not to work. I can however use the headphones to listen to the audio, however I can only use headphones. Has anyone else had this happen, or know a fix?

Is this problem only specific to Movies and Music or your whole system sounds are not working. – KashmirHackers Nov 23 '12 at 4:11
please add more information about your problem, like, after installing update and all drivers, does it still occur? – owl Nov 27 '12 at 0:35

You need to go into your settings and select your speakers as your default output.

If yours is a laptop, it might be because you have to tweak the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file a little.

Provide your laptop model and we can see what we can do.

If it is a desktop, are you plugging your speakers and headphones in the same port? if not, provide your motherboard model, and we'll see what we can do.
