When i turn on my laptop it boots from the flash drive that i have the files on but then it only shows a line of text and i left it for more than an hour and it didn't change at all.

Please be more clear with your request also please give the laptop you are attempting this on We just need a little more help diagnosing it. It is not an easy thing to guess the source of the problem. Thank you! – UbuntuHusker Nov 20 '12 at 21:51

My best suggestion, based on the information you give, would just be to:

-format the flash drive (FAT32)

-re-download the iso file

-recreate the liveusb on the flash drive

-try booting and installing again

If that doesn't work, try using a different flash drive if you can. I honestly have no idea what would cause this and I am a complete noob to technology in general compared to some on this site, but sometimes just starting over clean helps.
