Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have asked this question some time before as well - but here is the main problem out:

  • MBR was defect, I used Boot-Repair that I could access my Win-xp partition
  • With windows ext3 readers I can't access
  • Under live-cds i can't access to my Ubuntu partition (not able to mount them)

I didn't format them accidentialy or earsed them nor overwrote them.

Just a Ubuntu update was running last day and a win. update Can't boot in Ubuntu after windows upgrade and here: http://vanceance.blogspot.co.at/2012/11/testdisk-on-my-pc.html

as it seems if an post is on site 3 and had been answered with wathever if it helped or not - i "refresh" it with this more exactly post

options i cant use: -format the entire hdd or one of the partitions

thx if you have new infos for me

Shagun, could you explain it a little better - I can't quite understand the problem and what you have tried so far... with a better explanation more people will be able to understand and join in to help you –  zipizap Nov 20 '12 at 11:27

as i mentioned before - the mount command doesnt work - sometimes i get an error partition doestn exist (but i see it with TestDisk and co) and sometimes i get an message i´ve to add format type cause it doestn recognize (added ext3 ) but can somebody tell me the correct syntax of mount with format type - maybe i did a mistake there - cant remember how i entered - maybe ill try again but should this be normal that you cant enter your partitions on linux wiht live cds !?!?!?!?!?!?!?! –  VanceAnce Nov 20 '12 at 15:05
