Currently the default path install the XAMPP bundle is in /opt directory. I need to change that to my Home folder.
I tried using tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.8.1.tar.gz -C ~ but when I start lampp there are some errors. It looks the default path is hard-coded in the script itself!
How can I achieve what I need?

Please do not confuse LAMPP with XAMPP. –  Rinzwind Nov 20 '12 at 8:15

It is ok ;) I did not find a method to install it outside of /opt. And it looks like it is not the most secure piece of setup. But is not all you need the /var/www/html folder to be in home (or the equivalent of that in XAMPP)? If so... symlink it to home ;) –  Rinzwind Nov 20 '12 at 9:05

Thanks, since I only use it for local development purposes, security's not an issue. I think I have to go with symlink. Thanks again. –  Hamed Momeni Nov 20 '12 at 10:22
