I am having ubuntu 12.04 64 bit running with nginx 1.1.19 as per nginx release 1.1.19 is a development release.So why do ubuntu LTS shipped with development release rather than stable release.

I've had the same issue and recently found a solution for it too.

Ngix 1.19 has segfaults with try files so its best to remove it and install the stable version.

$sudo apt-get autoremove nginx

$ nginx=stable
$ echo "deb$nginx/ubuntu lucid main" >     /etc/apt/sources.list.d/nginx-$nginx-lucid.list
$ apt-key adv --keyserver --recv-keys C300EE8C
$ apt-get update
$ apt-get install nginx
