whebn I plug in the external hdd into the usb-port I get a message-window saying
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: can't find /dev/sdb1 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
I remember in past it always worked. what could have gone wrong? how does this automounting work? what is this helper? where is the helper-script? how do I debug it? with sudo it works on the commandline:
sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt
so if someone could tell me what command-line will let a user mount the drive to gnome's media:// I could search the solution there. this problem is not reproducible, and after a reboot everything works fine. I just would like to know how to evade restarting X.
