I often write without needing to see what I'm actually typing.

Is there a way to toggle the screen off and on (with a keyboard shortcut, or by configuring the lowest brightness setting to turn the screen completely off) so that I am able to continue working with the screen off?

I have a toshiba t135 and i use setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=55 , where 55 is the desired value. Use 0 to black it out... use at your own risk. –  alex Nov 17 '12 at 21:00
