Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I bought a Sony Vaio SVS1511V9E with Win 7, The first attempt I made to install Ubuntu in dual boot, everything worked ok, the only problem was that I screwed up and selected LVM which completely erased my windows partition(and hard drive).

I manage to get recovery DVDs from Sony and did a System Restore.

From that moment on, I wasnt able to install Ubuntu anymore because it always get stuck after the network selection. I read the var/log/syslog, and its giving an error in the NTFS system, something about the begin sector or something.

Anyone has a recommendation? Im eve in the mood to completely erase the drive (AGAIN) to try to get the system to work again.

Kind of getting desperate because I dont want to give up on ubuntu
