Several weeks ago, I installed Ubuntu 12.10 (dual booting with Windows 7) on a new SSD in a Dell XPS 17. It starts up fast and runs fast, but ever since yesterday, the GUI slows to a crawl after 20 or 30 minutes from starting up the laptop. The mouse still moves great, but selecting windows, typing, closing windows, and even pressing the shutdown button can take minutes.
I kept the system monitor open during this, and no processes seemed to be hogging CPU or memory. I have been trying to diagnose if a particular action is causing this, but it happens when I am just web browsing, coding, using the terminal, etc. The only consistency I can find is the time it takes for the slowdown to happen.
My question is, of course, how to fix this. Is this some sort of bug from a recent update, or is something under the hood acting funny 20 minutes into a session? Thanks for the help.
EDIT: It seems to be triggered by web browsing. The problem happens sometime when I change tabs in Firefox, Chromium, or Chrome.
