When I did this similar set-up, I ran into three main problems.

  1. Screen scrolling didn't work well. In many games you move around by moving the mouse to the edge of the screen, however in VirtualBox it wouldn't work smoothly

  2. The computer could easily get bogged down by all the resources it takes to run(essentially) two computers. This is usually not a problem if you have an amazing computer. But for middle spec-ed machines it can cause problems.

  3. Graphics drivers are many times hard to find, if not impossible, for a virtual machine. This most often results in a less impressive graphic display of the game.

My advice for you is to try out wine, playOnLinux and CrossOver. These are all great software (with the later two being easier to use) that run windows apps on linux. Many games are compatible with these programs. If that doesn't work then you can try to run it on a VM.
