My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it?

Sometimes I get a black screen after I boot my computer , I can hear the login sound from the login manager but the screen is black. I have a N-Vidia GT650m (Without the N-Video Drivers).

I have the same problem. You have to put your brightness up from your keyboard brightness keys and you will see you are logged in and ubuntu is working. I'm still looking for a permanent fix because I have to do this every time I restart my computer.

I had almost the same problem, black screen at login :( I had to Ctrl+Alt+F1 and restart lightdm and then it worked perfectly, but it sucked a bit to do that all the time so this is what a did next

sudo gedit /etc/rc.local

before the "exit 0" line insert this line:

service lightdm restart

This worked for me,and i hope it'll work for you too.
