I'm looking for a multifunction scanner/printer that can scan one or more pages to PDF with an absolute minimum of clicks.

I used to have a device that worked very well with SimpleScan, but it died. I replaced it with another device in the belief that it would work just as well, but it doesn't. I don't want to scan an image into Gimp or similar and then print it to a PDF printer; that's very cumbersome, especially for several jobs and especially for multi-page jobs.

I'm not asking which product to buy. I'm asking that, given a set of criteria,
how can I find products that allow (nearly) one-touch scan-to-PDF operation?

Scan criteria:

  • one-touch scanning (or as simple as possible)
  • scan to PDF with greyscale, and with low-res color
  • scan a multi-page job to a single multi-page PDF file

Print criteria:

  • 4 (or more) separate ink cartridges
  • very good photo print results
  • duplex print
