My workstation is equipped with an ATI FirePro V4800 graphic card.

I'd like to exploit its 3d capabilities, but after a clean Ubuntu 12.10 installation it's not possible : the driver installed is the opensource one.

After having read lots of entries in the "ask ubuntu" forum, I'm wandering if I can trust the proprietary driver fglrx or fglrx-updates and install one of them.

Is the ATI Firepro brand subject to the highlighted problem concerning the Radeon cards or is it immune from that bug?
