Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am using a shared computer in which I have root access via sudo but not the root user's password. For some reason gksudo doesn't do the standard protocol of asking for my password (in the sudo mold) but rather asks for the root user's password, which I do not have. So for instance I can sudo apt-get install all I want but I can't use the front-end, which is tiresome at times.

How can I change that?
