I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 desktop on three systems and one virtual machine. On every system I have opted for a single Btrfs partition.

During start-up I get the following two error messages. It takes 3–10 seconds for the messages to disappear and the start-up to continue.

  • “error: sparse file not allowed.”
  • “Scanning for Btrfs filesystems”

How do I resolve these problems? (And why do they need resolving?)
