I am really frustrated about the authentication password. When I try to install, download or update a software from Software Menu, I am always asked to enter the password to authenticate. I didn't even know whether I had a password or not.

Could you please help me ?

This question has been asked before and already has an answer. If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question.

Did you install Ubuntu via Wubi? Also, you may be actually in the Live CD still. Have you fully installed it and booted from your hard disk? – hexafraction Nov 3 '12 at 22:09
@user104301 See the suggested dupes -- something there should help. If not, ask another more specific question based on what you find. – belacqua Nov 3 '12 at 22:18
I downloaded the Ubuntu 12.04 from its formal website.I guess I installed fully and I am executing Ubuntu from my hard disk. – user104301 Nov 5 '12 at 23:03

You enter the password for your user account, whatever you normally enter to log in with.
