I am running Ubuntu from a USB Stick. I can't install it because my hard drive on my laptop won't mount. It shows up, but there is no info for it and it's unable to mount file. Same with the DVD drive. Is there anything I can do? It only has the internal hard drive and the reason why I want to use Ubuntu is that Windows would not boot any longer.Thank you.

What do you mean by "it's unable to mount file"? Any errors it prompts? A step-by-step protocol of what you did would be appreciated as well. –  FEichinger Nov 3 '12 at 16:49

I'm sorry, I'm totally lost when it come to technical stuff. I tried to install Ubuntu from the USB stick, it went to a certain point and then failed. I guess I really should take the laptop to someone who knows what they're doing since I clearly don't. Thank you for trying to help. I'm thinking the hard drive may be bad, since Windows wouldn't boot at all. –  Maggie Nov 3 '12 at 17:39
