I am not really very up on how all these things work but I need some help. I just bought a new PC with a NVIDIA 2GB grafix card so I can play my strategy games.

Priviously I ran Ubuntu and XP side by side no problems. But with this new machine I have to switch between SATA CONFIG IDE/AHCI

XP only runs with SATA config set to IDE and Unbutu only runs with AHCI set.

When I run Ubuntu from GRUB with IDE set in the bios, it comes up with

- Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/a8de661e-8015-4fa5-8666-24b9a59b4fd2 does not exist. Dropping to shell!

Now I was hoping that I could edit GRUN to maybe move the MBR or VBR to point to hda3 instead of sd3 if that makes sense.

So I could keep my bios settings on IDE.

I do have windows 8 for this machine so if worst come to worst I give up on Ubuntu. but I really don't want to do that.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
