I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 on vmware player 3.1.6. My computer is an Intel dual core with 3GB of RAM. After I inserted my password the virtual machine freezes on a black or purple screen.

Is there something else I must do to make this work?

Does only the vm crash?! Then you might have a failed installation of Ubuntu on your vm, did you try to re-install it? – Dr_Bunsen Nov 2 '12 at 15:07
