I booted Ubuntu from a flash drive and then installed it from there.

After the installation was complete and I restarted, but I never get prompted to use Ubuntu. I even pressed F8 to get to the screen to select an OS and Ubuntu is not listed.

My laptop now insists on doing a disc check each time I start it up which is highly frustrating.

In Windows 7 I can see that the amount I allocated to Ubuntu has been subtracted from its partition size.

Seems like the bootloader is not working.

To repair it, you can follow the guide on the official wiki or How to Ubuntu.
