After upgrading my Thinkpad T400 to Quantal, I noticed that the CPU fan became much noisier, it was essentially running all the time. I have configured fan control through thinkfan. I suspect that the problem is due to an updated version of the thinkfan package, now 0.8.1-1. Reverting to 0.7.3-1 sort of fixed the problem, the fan is quieter now.

Did anyone else experience similar problems? Is there a solution short of downgrading?

it's been a long time since you wrote this, but I have the same problem. How did you revert to 0.7.3-1 or did you find a different solution? –  jenson_bo Apr 4 '13 at 11:50

@jenson_bo: I have manually installed the package from launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+package/thinkfan and put it "on hold". –  krlmlr Apr 4 '13 at 12:36
