Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am using 12.10. I go to the network manager applet on the top panel and it cannot detect a wireless network. The computer used to have other Linux distributions and connected to the Internet without any pain. But when I use Ethernet it can successfully detect the connection and works flawlessly.

Please help.

This sounds like a BUG! You should file a bug report about it, I think. – The Lord of Time Nov 1 '12 at 15:17

Try:

echo "nameserver 8.8.8.8" | sudo tee /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/tail > /dev/null

Reboot to test

Does not work. I also have this problem and doing that did not solve it. – Luis Alvarado Nov 1 '12 at 15:13
