I have a strange issue related to my fresh ubuntu 12.10 installation. Graphics adapter is a NVidia 560ti, two DELLs U2412HM are attached.

I created the required xorg.conf using nvidia-xconfig and adapted it using nvidia-settings. Applying those settings renders the correct and expected result.

However, on reboot, the screen resolution is messed up (1024x768 instead of 1920x1200 for both displays). If I switch to a console (Alt+F1) and restart lightdm (sudo service lightdm restart), everything is fine again. This reproducably happens, so after every startup resolution is messed up and can be fixed by restarting lightdm.

Here is the xorg.conf

# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 304.51 (buildd@batsu) Fri Oct 12 12:53:54 UTC 2012

Any clues?

UPDATE

As I thought my issues might have something to do with some other application that starts up along with X, I played around a bit.

I disabled network-manager and switched the network configuration to /etc/networking/interfaces (and excluded network manager from upstart).

Interestingly, now everything is back to normal and my resolution is fine right from the first boot. If someone has a similar issues, give it a try and disable network manager to check if it has any effect. However, be aware that I find that situation very strange as I am not able to explain why network-manager could have an effect on the loading of the correct nvidia X settings.
