I have a server with Ubuntu 12.0.4 powering my web server (with Shorewall firewall) which is connected to the internet via a router with DHCP. I also have a Windows 7 client I used to access the server via putty.
Case 1: I want to have a static IP on the server so I can always connect to it from anywhere via SSH and HTTP.
Issue #1: Since I've installed and configured Shorewall on the server, I've not been able to connect to it from putty via the Windows client - though, I used to before installing firewall so I guess Shorewall is blocking some port but SSH and HTTP were allowed in the rules.
Issue #2: And when set static IP on the router, I was having another issue with my Windows client as it can't access the internet.
How do I configure this router so I can have a static IP on the server and be able to connect to it from anywhere and also be able to connect the Windows laptop via the router to the internet.
Thanks a lot.
