Been banging my head on the desk for a few hours with this one.

Upgraded mythbuntu to 12.04 this weekend. Though the HDMI sound running mythtv works fine, I noticed last night that HDMI sound when running apps like firefox (and sits like youtube) has stopped working.

This is my asound.conf:

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm {
type hw
card 1
device 9
}
}

This is my aplay -l:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC887-VD Analog [ALC887-VD Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: ALC887-VD Digital [ALC887-VD Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia_1 [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia_1 [HDA NVidia], device 7: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia_1 [HDA NVidia], device 8: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia_1 [HDA NVidia], device 9: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I get the pink noise if I run:

speaker-test -Dhw:1,9 -c2

But then I fire up a browser and there's no sound.

I expect it's an error in the asound.conf. Running the xfce desktop (since it's mostly a pvr) and can't find a gui way to configure the asound.conf

Thanks for any advice.
