I just downloaded KATE for ubuntu, and as soon as I click on Open I get this:

Please note that I am a new linux user, and I would very much appreciate your guidance.

What steps do I need to take in order to get this working??

@JorgeCastro thank you for your message. i actually dont know if this is a bug or if i am doing something wrong. i have a completely clean install of ubuntu and kate will not work – Артём Царионов Oct 26 '12 at 22:23

Crashes as you have observed are not expected behaviour. It clearly is a bug and the developers need to be aware of the issue to get this fixed. As such file a bug report on launchpad (instructions in the link Jorge gave you). Remember, as per the FAQ - Ask Ubuntu is not a bug-tracking site and therefore your question is off-topic. – fossfreedom♦ Dec 4 '12 at 23:53
