My problem is strange, and I really have no idea what it can be.
Suddenly, without any preliminary problems, torrent client shows lots of error messages about disappeared files. At the same time, some programs close themselves. At the same time, if I want to look at files on that NTFS partition and open Dolphin (the KDE file manager), I see nothing on the partition. Of course, I become scared (the partition contains really lots of important files for me!) and quickly reboot system. After reboot, everything works perfect.
This happened to me in two situations:
- In May 2012, I installed and tried to use Arch Linux (instead of my Kubuntu where this problem never happened) and experienced the problem every few days. That seemed to be serious enough to stop using Arch Linux.
- Nowadays, in October 2012, I upgraded from Kubuntu 12.04 to Kubuntu 12.10, and a day later the problem appeared again, and then repeated three days later. I guess that there is a component (a filesystem driver?) which upgraded in Ubuntu later than in Arch, but I don't even know which component can it be. :-(
How to detect what happens?
Arch Linux installation was quite default; (K)ubuntu installation is very old but upgradeable without serious problems, so I think it's default enough, too. :-)
