Today I changed to Kubuntu 12.10 x64 bit. I installed gcc, g++, make, build-essential and linux-headers-generic. System is up to date.
I downloaded VMWare workstation x64 version 8.0.4, set +x and installed the product. I startet VMWare workstation and the launcher compiled the kernel, but, with this result:
Unable to start services

The two points "Virtual Network Device" and "VMWare Blocking Filesystem" have a yellow warning triangle. Ok, here is the log file:
But the problem is, that I cannot see why this failed. There are some invalid libraries, but no error message.
Any suggestions ?
This has really to do with the patch. I used 8.0.3 before and the error output was completely different. I thought it is really a problem with the invalid libraries. A patch for 8.04 and kernel 3.4 and 3.5 can be found here:
Then change the linworkstation and player-version line to 8.04 and 4.04 and run the script with sude. After this, start VMWare
