Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've seen the post:

Should I install 12.04 or 10.10 on a laptop with 512MB of RAM?

but I'm still not convinced Xubuntu is lightweight enough. I'm saying this because I believe Slitaz and Porteus to be even more lightweight and whenever I start viewing something in youtube, or other sites that use flash, it freezes!!!
I've tried 4 different linux distros (Slitaz, Bodhi, Porteus and Ubuntu 10.04) and so, before I go on to the next, I'd like an opinion.
None of them satisfied me. Slitaz had wifi issues and all others showed problems as soon as I used a browser.

The second opinion I'm looking for is should I run for live usb or can I install in Windows? Which is best? Thank you!

P.S - It's a 32 bit machine P.S 2 - I intend to run some-kind of web development kit\ android development kit. Still searching open-source light packages for that, that's why I haven't mentioned any yet.
