Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I recently bought Dell Inspiron with Ubuntu 11.10 pre-installed.

After using it for a while I was prompted with available driver updates, one of which said :

ATI/AMD proprietary graphics driver (post release updates)

I clicked on the activate button but during setup it displayed an installation error and stopped. Now whenever I try to install it again I see the following message

Sorry, Installation of this Driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details:/var/log/jockey.log

Also, I can't run games from the Ubuntu software centre. I see a a message like this:

terminal output

Also when I try to run AMD Catalyst control centre, I see see this: window image

Does it have something to do with my driver (or hardware)?

Did you buy this from Dell or a reseller? You might be able to get support there. –  belacqua Oct 26 '12 at 16:14
