Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

In 11.04 using gnome 2.32.1.

If I have (as I frequently seem to) a list of bits of text I want to search for in a search box, it's convenient to drag each search term over to the search box and drop it there.

But, after the first time, each subsequent drop adds to rather than replaces the previous text in the target search box, so I have to delete it first which adds an extra [mouse click, ctrl-A, delete], to the sequence making it much longer.

Is there a way to make the drop operation replace the previous text rather than adding to it? I would expect alt, ctrl or some similar key combination to do this, but it doesn't. Any ideas? TIA, Phil
