Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I was running a normal Xubuntu session and suddenly, I couldn't launch Firefox anymore - a dialog informed that the application crashed.

So I restarted the computer, but since then Xubuntu doesn't start up graphically anymore - all I get is a terminal session. I can switch to other ttys with Ctrl + Alt F1..F6, but the 'main' one is a terminal session too.

Not the first time I've encountered this issue - last time I did gave up and reinstalled my system.

What could be going on? How to fix it?
