When I try to play a VMWare Windows 7 VM the whole of my host screen is scrambled with horizontal lines and I can no longer do anything in the host and I have to power it off to recover.

My host is Ubuntu 12:10 32 bit. The VM I am trying to run is Windows 7 64bit and its state is "Powered Off". I have tried various things such as changing the resolution of the VM in the VM settings, but nothing seems to help.

I'm not sure if it's a graphics card problem. I have not installed any additional drivers as everything looks good in the host. This is what lspci returns:
