E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

Thank you for this. If you have time to explain why this works (the top line) it would be greatly appreciated. – Gleasonator Apr 2 '13 at 21:08

Open your terminal and type this

sudo rm -rf /var/lib/dpkg/lock
