Possible Duplicate:
How do I disable the guest session?

I know you can edit a configuration file to disable the guest account, but is there any option to do that via the Ubuntu 12.10's GUI?

It's hard for me to believe that a simple on/off option wasn't implemented since the guest account was added to Ubuntu, and I'd be glad to find that option added as a feature to the 12.10 release.

Nope. Why do you want it disabled anyway? – mikewhatever Oct 21 '12 at 17:34

Can't you really think of any use case where one would want to disable the guest account? :P In my case, I'm the only one working on my PC so it doesn't make any sense for me to have it enabled. And I can think of other scenarios as well, but would go offtopic I guess :) – Nejest Oct 21 '12 at 17:43

It's always been pretty clear what this is asking, and the recent edit has made it even clearer. Let's please not close this question (unless it turns out to be a duplicate, of course). An easy, user-friendly way to disable the guest account would be welcomed by many novice users and people considering migrating to Ubuntu, whether or not they "really need" to disable it. – Eliah Kagan Oct 21 '12 at 23:40
I've flagged this to be merged with the previous question so we have them all in one place, nice work everyone! – Jorge Castro Oct 22 '12 at 0:01
nice catch, @JorgeCastro, thanks. – Eliran Malka Oct 22 '12 at 0:32

You can do that using Ubuntu Tweak (which its developer had recently announced he no longer will be developing, nor supporting, but that shouldn't interfere with our goal).

After installing, navigate to Tweaks / Login Settings and switch off Guest account.

ubuntu tweak login settings

This just came in: Ubuntu Tweak will be continued nevertheless, see the corresponding post (thanks, mikewhatever).

Nice find, and by the way, Ubuntu Tweak will continue. – mikewhatever Oct 21 '12 at 18:53
