when I was trying to install ubuntu 12.04 in my windows 7 partition I saw the message "No root file system defined" when it told me to choose one. I downloaded the ubuntu installer for windows. what could be the problem.

Have you deleted any files? Boot in windows, scan all your hard drives for errors, reboot once, let it finish the scanning. Then reboot once more into Windows. The third time, try to boot into Ubuntu. – medigeek Oct 20 '12 at 19:19
