Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

After upgrading to 12.10, several of my apps won't appear on the launcher, including eclipse and idea. They are not in the Alt+Tab switch list either, so I won't be able to switch to another app and switch back.

I checked on this website and found no similar questions about 12.10, so I re-install the 12.10 from scratch. But this problem still exists. And even gnome-terminal won't appear either!

Anybody has similar problems?

try to Reset Unity To Default Settings In Ubuntu :

If you want to reset the Unity Launcher icons (dock bar on the left) to their initial state, run the following command:

unity --reset-icons

If you want to reset Unity (this will only reset the Unity settings in CompizConfig Settings Manager and leave the other CCSM settings intact), open a terminal (or press ALT + F2) and enter:

unity --reset

unity --reset no longer works in 12.10

Try the following:

Type the following in to a terminal:

dconf reset -f /org/compiz/

then

setsid unity

If this is an issue with Unity settings that will reset your config to default.

I hope that helps.
