I've got a recent problem with Ubuntu 12.10. I just upgraded from 12.04 and it keeps complaining about lightdm not being installed properly. I'm pretty new to Linux. I have no clue what to do here.

What graphics card are you using? Have you tried reinstalling? –  Kyle Macey Oct 19 '12 at 18:25

possible duplicate of I uninstalled unity and now I don't have any desktop environment –  Tom Brossman Oct 20 '12 at 10:02

@TomBrossman In this question, the OP talks about there being lightdm errors. Does that fit with dupe target you've suggested? MaxWalker: Please edit your question to include the complete and exact text of all error messages. –  Eliah Kagan Oct 20 '12 at 14:12

@EliahKagan No.'Unity Missing' (up in the title) fits with the dupe (and has helpful answers), so flagged as possible dupe. Side note: I got no notification for your comment, possibly because it's bold? I just happened across this question again and saw your comment to me... –  Tom Brossman Oct 21 '12 at 19:39
