I am using Ubuntu 12.04 for a while and I think it is good enough for my needs. What will I get by upgrading to 12.10?

I checked out the Ubuntu online tour.

It looks like exactly the same version I have. What are the benefits of upgrading?

@Ranjth: One downside is that you will lose LTS support. Check out this Q&A askubuntu.com/questions/119172/… – Stephen Myall Oct 19 '12 at 10:52
If you have to ask, then, perhaps you shouldn't. How should anyone know anyway. – mikewhatever Oct 19 '12 at 10:55
As far from what I read: you won't get any performance benefits. You'd better stick to 12.04 if you don't really need one of the new features - which are not that gamebreaking imho. – cauon Oct 19 '12 at 11:14
The only downside I see is if they release a really kick ass ubuntu 13.04 and it is radically different from 12.04. Then I might have to do a clean install or upgrade ubuntu to 12.10 and then change to 13.-4 – Ranjith R Oct 19 '12 at 11:16

Don't think you will have benefits. You loose LTS. You get more "instability" (since 12.10 is "new").

BTW these are the new features https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QuantalQuetzal/ReleaseNotes/UbuntuDesktop Just read.

Ubuntu 12.04 is a LTS release and it will be supported till April 2017. If you feel that it fulfills your need then continue using it.

At any point of time if you feel that you are missing out the features provided in here then try out 12.10

You can also try out 12.10 release in a virtual environment before upgrading from 12.04.

  • Linux Kernel upgrade to 3.5
  • Unity:

    • 2D dropped
    • Previews added
    • Integrated web apps
  • Gnome updates.
  • Python upgraded to 3.2.3 from 2.x
  • gcc version upgraded to 4.7
  • Improved online account management
