Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

When I run the text editor application, it is not recognised by Unity. It run and show, but it will not appear in the launcher. From then, I can only access it but ALT-TAB. Also, if I try and open a file from the folder explorer, it will open the file in a new instance of text editor. How may I fix these problems?

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with the latest updates installed.

Is it common with Ubuntu, or am only I getting it? –  Harris6310 Oct 17 '12 at 9:45

The way to fix this is to remove unity and install the old gnome interface ;) nah, I'm just kidding. It happened once with me, the only way I found out was to go back to the old desktop. –  Evandro Silva Oct 17 '12 at 9:51
