Trying to reset password in Ubuntu 12.04 installed in a Dell Optiplex X386-32 bits. After pressing Shift key during reboot, getting to Recovery and into root editing, I get this (bold font):

guest-KUGyB7@usuario-OptiPlex-GX620:~$ (blinking prompt here at bottom of screen).

It appears that Dell kidnapped Ubuntu's boot sequence. Please, help!!!

This is the best how-to on resetting passwords. Were you following this guide? If yes, which step are you stuck at? If you just need to troubleshoot boot problems, this is the best answer. If neither of these help, please provide more detail on exactly what you were doing prior to the issue you have now. Good luck. – Tom Brossman Oct 14 '12 at 9:49
