Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Every time there's a distro upgrade, xscreensaver gets uninstalled. I get that this is because Gnome hates it whenever one of its services gets replaced, but how do I stop this behavior? It's so annoying to have to dig through my web browsing history to find that one site that explained how to install it. (Yes, I know, "sudo apt-get install xscreensaver," but there were some other things like "xscreensaver-gl-extras" and this one other thing that adds a TON of extra screensavers.

It's a fairly easy problem to fix, but it's annoying nonetheless. Does anybody have any ideas on how to stop this from happening?
