I am using HP Probook 4445. It has 4 USB ports (2 on the left and 2 on the right). I got a very strange problem. When I connect my Reliance USB dongle to the ones on the left, they are not recognized but when I connect to the ones on the right they work fine. I don't think there is a problem with the USB port because they seem to work fine on Windows 7.

sudo dmesg | tailafter inserting your device in a usb port. That can help us determine if it is discovered or not. – nikhil Oct 22 '12 at 8:05
