OK my install failed while installing the amd proprietary driver. I keep seeing references to a Nvidia driver, but I do not have or even want anything pertaining to Nvidia. Here are my latest entries for the jockey.log:

You could try following the instructions outlined in this post: askubuntu.com/questions/124292/… . Please make sure to remove any previous version of FGLRX before proceeding. Answer #1 explains how to do so. –  Glutanimate Oct 12 '12 at 12:43
    
I tried that and it broke my OS yet again. Somebody should really consider verifying that process before posting it. –  Chris Oct 12 '12 at 19:04
