Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I applaud the step to ask for donations prior to the download. It totally makes sense. I also like the humble-bundle-style sliders. I'd really like a slider though, that allows peope to give a humble tip to Debian who - after all - make Ubuntu possible.

While this is a very valid idea, this is the wrong place (wrong site) to ask this question. I'd suggest talking to someone responsible (maybe on #ubuntu on IRC) or suggesting it on Ubuntu brainstorm. – RolandiXor Oct 11 '12 at 18:15

If the question really were just trying to find out why this feature doesn't exist, it would be on topic. But I think it's clear from context that this is a feature request, so it should be posted on Brainstorm as @RolandTaylor suggests, or on Launchpad as a bug report (or both). – Eliah Kagan Oct 11 '12 at 19:39
@EliahKagan: I guess the question really is, why this wasn't implemented in the first place. Someone will ask sabdfl about this in an interview sooner or later ;) – mniess Oct 13 '12 at 8:11

If you want to donate to Debian, it's better to give directly to SPI, a non-profit which handles donations for them. If you donate that way, it's tax-deductible for you, and I don't believe that SPI pays taxes on it either. Contributions to Canonical are not tax deductible for you, and Canonical will have to pay taxes on them as well.

If you want to give financial contributions to upstreams, you should also consider donating to the FSF, Mozilla and the GNOME Foundation as well.

You should file a bug report on this asking for it:

In the meantime you can directly donate to Debian via SPI:
