I've upgraded to 12.04 but is the same. Boot time is about 10 minutes. I'am newby

Just a guess. One friend has buy external hard drive. When the drive is connected the computed boot for 4-5 minutes. Then we check the BIOS machine and it appears that the "SMART" check was checking the external drive too. Disable the check solve the issue - superuser.com/questions/478401/… –  gotqn Oct 10 '12 at 21:02

The boot time can vary for various reasons. If you can please install bootchart package and reboot the system. This package will create a chart of your computer boot process each time you start the computer.

The charts are stored in /var/log/bootchart. After you reboot update your question with the generated chart (if you have more than one picture, post the most recent). This will provide a lot of information that can be used to identify the cause of the slow boot.
