Comparison of backup tools

Can I install multiple drop boxes (www.dropbox.com) on my Ubuntu systems (9.04 and 10.04)? (I use them as servers.)

I need a backup space/system for multiple projects on the same Ubuntu servers. What do you think about this approach? Is it ok?

This seems like a pretty subjective question. Also a duplicate of Comparison of backup tools –  Marco Ceppi Jan 3 '11 at 15:06

Your main question is subjective, please move the "Also, very important" question to a new question. –  João Pinto Jan 3 '11 at 15:10

For a server I would use combination of rsync and crontab.

About dropbox, be aware that they can delete your account without notice if you use free account. If you really wanna make simple then use ubuntu one, they do notice about such stuff :P

that's true, but the problem is not the backup system itself, but the free space. –  Patrick Jan 3 '11 at 15:05

It is a possibility. But using a syncing service (also UbuntuOne) might give you some possible problems. What happens if a file is changed on both servers at the same time? Dropbox will keep both files under new names (like something.conflicting_copy)

Since you mention sql dumps, you are not talking about syncing mysql databases? There are better ways for that.

Backups are probably more reliable using cron jobs and some cheap ftp space.

My questions was actually not completely clear. I don't need to sync the 2 servers, it was just to underline I'm using 2 different versions of Ubuntu. –  Patrick Jan 3 '11 at 15:04

Can I install multiple Ubuntu Ones accounts on a single Ubuntu os ? I need around 1 GB for each project, not for all of them... –  Patrick Jan 3 '11 at 15:04
