Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I successfully installed Ubuntu 12.04 lts on my laptop yesterday, but couldn't connect to my home wireless network. It's not encrypted, everything is turned on and works properly in windows 7, rebooting the computer didn't change anything, and resetting the router didn't work. I can connect via ethernet, though. I suspect a driver issue.

This is the first time I've ever worked with Linux, so any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

1. Have you checked if your wireless LED is lighting in Linux? 2. Please open a console and type in that console: ifconfig 3. Please tell us what you can see there in the "wlan" section. –  Peterling Oct 9 '12 at 20:49
