The title says it all really. The adaptor came with a cd for drivers but I presume it's only for windows. I'm not really sure what to do now. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

EDIT: Thanks for the responses. I am running ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386, it's the 32 bit version. At the moment when I plug the adaptor in, the only thing that happens is a box in the top right corner opens saying I am disconnected from the internet.

EDIT 2: The Disc with the drivers seems to be working now although it doesn't install the drivers automatically. So i now have access to the linux drivers, however I don't know what to do with them.

EDIT 3: Thanks for your response. Ubuntu is now definitely recognising the adaptor. I actually moved my computer to right beside my router to see if it could connect wirelessly there, and it did. However once I move my computer back to my office upstairs, while the adaptor is recognised, the network won't even show up as an option. Occasionally the network does show up but when I try to connect it just keeps asking me for the wep key but won't connect. The same adaptor works perfectly on my windows laptop in the same room so I really doubt it is a signal strength thing. I'm at my wits end here, I think I might try buying another adaptor, I can't really see any other options. Thanks for all your help so far anyway.

Hi and welcome to AskUbuntu. Please look at this Q&A and edit your question with information about how the kernel sees your usb adaptor (askubuntu.com/questions/14008/…) - you should edit your question with the version of ubuntu you have installed together with the kernel you are using. – fossfreedom Oct 7 '12 at 21:13
The notification of "disconnected from Internet" means the USB adaptor is recognized by Ubuntu. Most of the time Ubuntu does not need extra drivers. Open a Terminal and type lsusb (while the adaptor is plugged in) and append the output to your question. – user68186 Oct 8 '12 at 3:09
